Roadmap Update

About a month ago I wrote about the Zimki roadmap and what our plans were. It had a couple of fairly near goals, so I thought I'd write a quick post about what we've got done so far.

The plan was:

  1. PUT capability for HTTP API aspect
  2. Review DB model
  3. .NET Client Libraries
  4. CNAME support

The result has been:

  1. We've got limited support for PUT. It's limited in so much as it can only PUT strings. This works, but it can be a bit of a pain if you want to PUT large amounts of data. This has been documented.
  2. Internally we're looking at the database. Its a requirement for the Moveable Zimki Application goal. It's pretty simple: if you want to move an application around you need to be able to move the data around with it.
  3. .NET client libraries have been released.
  4. CNAME/Virtual Host support is in! It's not yet documented, but it is there. We're working on the documentation so that serving a Zimki application from your own domain name is as straightfoward as possible.

Additionally we've been working on some things that were on the roadmap for a little bit later.

The public release of the Portal API should be happening soon. This means that tools can be written to integrate the Zimki service with third-party editors, build tools, and other goodies. This is happening in conjunction with an internal review of what we'd like the portal to be doing and why we'd like to do it.

Basically it's all go here. We're working hard to try improve what is available to developers, and it's getting there. We know we've got lots to do, but certainly we're checking off the boxes apace….
